Korean History 3. 1990s Culture President “Seo Tai-ji and Boys”

It seems that there are many unique tragedies and sorrows in Korean history. Tragedy will inevitably be seen a lot in the future, knowing Korean history.

I’d like to go back to a time when we all enjoyed ourselves at least once, and this time I’d like to introduce a music group of Korean historical and brilliant people.

In 1992, “Seo Tai-ji and Boys” released an album titled “I Know.” “I feel like I’ve changed from black-and-white TV to color TV for the first time,” most Koreans looked at the group with such fresh shock. The way he danced and sang was refreshing, and the rhythm was definitely different from previous Korean songs.

Most of the songs before “Seo Tai-ji and Boys” were like this.

The song “Seo Taiji and Boys” was so good at rhythm and lyrics that it really received the love of all Koreans.

In the days when there were no cell phones yet, most children and young people sang “I Know” and walked around the streets. Each store was flooded with “Seo Tai-ji and Boys” songs.

K-pop is definitely divided into “Seo Tai-ji and Boys” and since then, it has developed significantly.

Seo must have been a big storm and shining star of the Republic of Korea at that time.

And it’s clear that the glowing music has now led to the world-shining BTS.

In 2020, South Korea is the only divided country in the world. In 1948, when the country was divided, there was a clear confrontation between democracy, communism and the left and right.

But now the Cold War has collapsed, and it’s been a long time since the new era opened.

Koreans still have leftists and rightists. However, it is true that all Koreans, regardless of their left or right, are dreaming of a unified Korea.

Great singers like the Beatles seem to shine over time.

“Dreaming of Balhae” (1994) by “Seo Tai-ji and boys” is a song that represents the hopes of the people of the Republic of Korea. Balhae refers to ancient countries from 7C to 10C.

한국역사에 유독(?) 비극과 슬픔이 많은 것 같다. 어쩔 수 없이 비극은 한국역사를 알아가며 앞으로 많이 보게 될 것이다.

한 번쯤은 우리 모두가 즐거웠던 한 시절로 돌아가 보고 싶어, 이번엔 한국의 역사적이고 빛나는 한 그룹을 소개하고자 한다.

1992년 서태지와 아이들의 ‘난 알아요’라는 앨범이 나왔다. ‘흑백 TV에서 처음 컬러 TV로 바뀐듯한 느낌’ 한국 사람들은 대부분 그런 신선한 충격으로 이 그룹을 바라보았다. 춤을 추며 노래를 하던 그 모습도 신선했고, 리듬도 이전 한국 노래들과는 확실히 달랐다.

‘서태지와 아이들’ 이전 노래는 거의 대부분 이러하였다.

‘서태지와 아이들’노래는 리듬, 가사 모두 뛰어나서 정말 대한민국 모두의 사랑을 한몸에 받게 되었다.

핸드폰이 아직 없던 시절 대부분의 아이들과 젊은이들은 ‘난 알아요’를 부르고 길거리를 다녔다. 상점마다 ‘서태지와 아이들’노래가 넘쳐 흘렀다.

한국가요는 확실히 ‘서태지와 아이들’ 그리고 그 이후로 나뉘고, 그 이후로 뚜렷하게 발전하게 된다.

만약 한국가요에 대해 전문적으로 배워보고자 한다면 ‘서태지와 아이들’은 놓칠 수 없는 부분이다.

서태지는 그 시절 대한민국의 큰 폭풍이자 빛나는 스타였음이 틀림없다.

그리고 그 빛나는 음악이 지금 세계를 빛내는 BTS로 이어져 내려온 것이 분명하다.

2020년 대한민국은 전 세계에서 유일하게 분단된 국가이다. 분단될 당시인 1948년에는 민주주의와 공산주의, 좌우가 뚜렷한 대립이 있던 때이다.

그러나 이제 냉전은 붕괴되었고, 새 시대가 열린 지 오래되었다.

한국 사람들도 여전히 좌익, 우익이 존재한다. 그러나 좌우 관계없이 대한민국 사람 모두가 통일된 대한민국을 꿈꾸고 있는 것이 사실이다.

2020년 4월. 김정은 위원장이 아프다는 첩보가 들어오고 있다. 한국 사람들은 항상 그래왔듯이 또다시 전쟁에 대한 공포와 언젠가는 맞이하게 될 희망을 동시에 엿보고 있다.

비틀즈처럼 위대한 가수들은 시대가 지나도 빛이 나는 가 보다.

서태지와 아이들의 ‘발해를 꿈꾸며’(1994)는 예나 지금이나 대한민국 국민들의 희망을 대변하는 노래이다. 발해는 7C부터 10C까지의 고대국가를 말한다.‘발해를 꿈꾸며’는 이렇게 시작한다.

“진정 나에겐 단 한 가지 내가 소망하는 게 있어. 갈려진 땅의 친구들을 언제쯤 볼 수가 있을까?”
